I used to think to myself that the kids just don’t like reading, but when I saw all the kids crowded around the table yesterday and so excited about the books you brought I realized how much of a difference it makes in a child’s excitement to read when the book is new/up to date! It was really, really amazing to see all the kids crowded at the book table and getting so excited about all the books you brought! I haven’t seen kids that enthusiastic about books in a while.

New Books
25Books works hard to provide new books as a fundamental part of the program. The intent is to create a sense of excitement around reading. When the kids come into the library for their free book giveaway, they see all of the new and colorful books laid out on tables waiting to be picked up. They see the recognizable titles and characters. They also know that whatever book they choose will be theirs and theirs alone. There is a lot of meaning associated with ownership. It is the hope of 25Books that kids will take pride in the books they choose because they are now the proud owners of them. If they take pride in the owning of the books, hopefully, they will take pride in the reading of them.
Used Books
25Books is very happy to partner with other volunteers around the county to obtain used books to include in the program. In addition to the goal of generating excitement around books, 25Books also hopes to provide as many books as possible to kids who need them! Used books are a great source of additional books at no cost to the program. They are included into the free book fairs to give kids another book or two to take home in addition to the brand new one they have selected.
